The Truth (as I see it)

I've always believed that if someone had nothing to gain by telling you something it was an indication that what you were hearing was the truth (from their perspective anyway). I have very little to gain by telling you what I will be telling you in the next few pages. This information is provided for our downline and anyone that cares to read on. I have been in business over half of my life and I do know a thing or two.  The information I provide is more about business and how it pertains to Avon than about slick tricks, those you deal with have I'm sure had it with lies and half truths. first and foremost be honest. For those that are simply looking to have a small business, buy for themselves or to a few friends, this page is not of much use to you although you may find it interesting.

Many get into the business because they think its a great way to get rich quick - it isn't, it takes a great deal of time and effort. Many invested their $10.00 or $20.00 thinking that if they didn't make it there would be very little to lose. Wrong, failure is failure regardless of how much you've invested. You need to decide if you will be a success or not, the decision is yours alone.
I would suspect that if we signed only twenty Ladies here in the Midsouth, within a year every one of them would either have quit the business or left owing Avon money.
Why is this, you may ask. Well believe it or not, some get in just to scam Avon, they run up a bill and ignore it. Others have no real desire to succeed. I stopped worrying about those folks a long time ago. I figure if its not important to them, why should it be important to me. I don't have time to dwell on the negative, I look for those that have the fire in their bellies, those that want something out of life and are willing to work for it. I don't take responsibility for those that fail - it's on them, I've done all I can but they, and you must take responsibility for their own business.
This sounds cold I know but like I said this is business, the fact that it is cheap to join is a bonus. There are not many opportunities to generate a six figure income with such a meager investment!

The Numbers Game

Ever heard the saying "like water off a ducks back"? If you want to be a professional Network Marketer you'll need to talk to a lot of people - often. You will need to make a conscious effort to recruit new ladies into your business, of those leads you get only a hand full will get into the business, of those only a small percentage will stay on for the first few campaigns. I'm sure someone has calculated the percentages but for now we need to understand that most of your new recruits will drop out, most of your leads won't answer the phone when you attempt to follow up, and the ones that do make an appointment to "sign - up" won't show (or even call to tell you they won't be showing". How do you deal with this reality? Well now that you know what to expect - you won't be surprised when it happens. don't get discouraged (I know you will), Don't go looking for a slick way to recruit ie.(ebay), If things are going slow - turn up the heat! Spend more time recruiting, increase your odds of finding that diamond in the rough!

Our Edge

Why after several years are we still at it - simple, we are in this together. I support my wife and she supports me. Yes its that simple. You fail when you quit - so don't quit, most of you have no support system, and that is a problem. Husbands should support or at least encourage their wives. (included of coarse is boyfriends, girlfriends, sisters etc). It's easy to get swallowed up with life and simply give up, or get side tracked. Remember though this is your business, you can't put the blame of failure on anyone but you, personal responsibility is essential in business.
An a personal note. Both Ingrid (my wife) and myself lost a spouse to cancer in 1996, we were both thirty six years old, I was in Buffalo she in Florida. It was devastating for us both.
We met in eastern Arkansas in 1997 and were married that year. Yesterday we celebrated our twelfth anniversary. Why am I telling you this? Because that is our edge. We understand the importance of a mate, we understand that you must never take the other for granted. We have our ups and downs naturally, but we draw off each others strength. Where will you draw from? Do you have the strength to go the distance?

Gaining Support

I believe that if you expect nothing from someone that generally is what you'll get. I believe that you have the right to expect certain things in life - support or at least encouragement would be one of those things. If your husband does not support you talk to him about the advantage to be gained by your Avon business. If he pays the bills tell him you'd like pay the electric bill or the water bill or the car not etc. Get him to realize that your business can be a benefit to the family and reduce some of his burden. talk to him about a new bass boat, four wheeler, fly rod fishing trip - you get the idea. Get him to realize that its in his best interest to support you - you'll be amazed at how helpful he can be, you'll be working together for common goals and your business will start to move in a positive direction. (By the way those husbands  in our downline that get in the way of the way of their wife's business - get a call from me and I inform them of the rewards in assisting their wives).
